Use: Bottle palms are very interesting palms that are used as specimens in the landscape. Their small head and very stout trunk is extremely sculptural. They are often used in an informal way in full sun. Related to the taller and more slender Spindle palm, these palms always bring attention to garden spaces.
Characteristics: Known for its tropical nature, these palms can reach 12' tall and 6 feet wide. They prefer organic nutrient laden soils, but are known for their durability and salt tolerance. Their informal nature makes them suitable for small to mid-scale projects in many different landscape styles.
Trimming: Bottle palms are self-cleaning palms and their leaves will fall off on their own. No formal trimming is needed.
Fertilization/Pests: Fertilize in March, June and October with a well-balanced, granular Palm fertilizer. Potassium deficiency is common. Provide Potassium sulphate three times per year to keep them healthy.
